How Long Do Edibles Stay In Your System?

Legalization and de-crimination of cannabis have seen its consumption increase for medical and recreational purposes. However, drug use in society is associated with medical, behavioural, and social defects. 

The public and private work sectors strive to promote sobriety in the community and have become strict on drug use at work and social levels. You may be safe if you use weed as a prescription drug.

Whether you are a new, occasional or regular user, it’s wise to know how long weed edibles stay in your system. That is while feeling the effects and detecting them in a drug test. 

 

What Are Weed Edibles?

Weed edibles are any food or drink containing cannabinoids, specifically tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary psychoactive ingredient in cannabis that gets you high. However, there are other marijuana edibles with minimal THC but contain other cannabinoids like CBD, CBG, and CBN that we use for medical purposes or recreation.

How Do Cannabis Edibles Work?

Cannabis edibles are taken orally and undergo digestion just like other food before absorption into the bloodstream. The ingested THC edible will go through the digestive system and into the liver, where delta-9 THC is converted to 11-hydroxy THC and attached to the fatty cells to give a more psychoactive effect.

Cannabis edibles’ effects take longer before kicking in, as digestion and metabolism must occur first. Because of this, they usually have higher potency levels, lasting longer than inhaled THC.

It would be best to be careful with marijuana edibles, whether new to cannabis or a veteran user. We recommend you take an edible with at least 2.5 mg first and wait for the effects. You may increase the dosage gradually depending on tolerance.

 

How Long Do THC Edibles Remain in Your System?

How long an edible stay in your system depends on different factors. First, the cannabis strain is consumed lying between 3 -12 days. 

Also, how long you stay high depends on the quantity of THC ingested. Another contributing factor is whether you are a casual or regular user. Habitual use of weed increases the threshold of THC the body requires to reach the same high.

If you’re wondering how long edibles stay in your system because you’re about to be drug tested, here we give you everything you need to know.

THC is metabolized the same way whether you inhale or ingest cannabis. So, whether you inhale or take an edible, metabolism takes place in the liver.

THC is lipid and binds with your body fat cells where it’s stored, so it stays longer in the body than other drugs. The detection window depends on the tested body part and the quantity consumed. 

Here’s a brief breakdown of various methods used to detect THC in your system:

1. Weed Edibles during Urine Test (3 – 30 Days)

When screening for drugs, the most common sample used is urine, which has a big detection window. If you use weed occasionally, like thrice a week, or it’s your first intake of cannabis, your urine will show traces of THC for three days after the most recent dosage. For persons whose uptake is four to five times weekly, their urine will show traces of THC for around 5 – 7 days.

Daily cannabis consumers can expect the detection of THC races in the urine to last 10 – 15 days. The detection window can increase for persons with high dependence on weed, e.g., users who consume cannabis multiple times a day. Your system can show traces of THC for up to a month or longer if you are in this category.

2. Weed Edibles during Blood Test (1 – 2 Days)

A blood test is a direct drug test method used for recent cannabis consumption. The blood test detection window is narrower than the urine test.

Blood will exhibit THC between one or two days after use if you are a first-time or occasional user. However, just like a urine test, blood tests for people who use cannabis often and heavily can show THC traces in the body for an extended 25 days.

3. Weed Edibles during A Saliva Test (1 – 3 Days)

If you’re an occasional user, THC traces can appear in your saliva for three days after the last smoke.

For those who use cannabis heavily, the situation may worsen, whereby THC elements may remain in your saliva for 29 days. 

Scientific evidence shows a saliva test isn’t the best when testing cannabis edibles. There is a possibility of testing negative after eating a weed edible. An examination of metabolites gives more definite results, although not a priority during a saliva test.

4. Edibles during Hair Test (Up To 90 Days)

Your hair will show THC traces from edibles for up to three months before the body system flushes them out. Despite the hair having a more extended detection period, the method is rarely used by authorities because urine is easier to screen and gives a more recent time frame.

The hair test is most common during abstinence tests in clinics and other environments. The main drawback of a hair test is that THC is traceable in the hair, even if you use cannabis occasionally.

 

How to Get THC Out Of My System Quickly?

Today many employers require their employees to undertake a drug test before and during employment. Many organizations are willing to pay for the tests to promote a drug-free working environment.

Can you clean THC out of your system fast? The answer is yes, so long as you’re not a user or have had a few days since the last dose and are- a light user.

If it’s THC and you are a regular heavy user, getting clean may take two to four weeks of abstinence. The reason is that marijuana metabolites are different in shape and attach themselves to fat cells for longer, making them easy to detect.

 

Is It Possible To Clean THC Out Of My System In 24 Hours Or Less?

Although many products in the market claim fast THC detox, it’s impossible to detox in 24 hours or less when going for a drug test.

No product or machine on earth currently cleans all the cells in the body, even complete dialysis. The only way you can come out clean during screening is by using the following strategies:

• Submitting a fake (synthetic) urine sample and altogether avoiding your own
• Masking of the toxins 
• Increasing the pace at which you become naturally clean.

  The last two require the use of detox pills or drinks. You can also reduce the days you get THC out of your system naturally by more exercise and water intake while abstaining from cannabis.
